I have extensive experience copyediting scientific and academic texts, as well as trade lifestyle nonfiction, and creative writing from people at all levels.

My first copyediting job was at the American Meteorological Society (AMS), working with seven of the top journals in the field. At the AMS I balanced a stringent house style with the usual rigors of the Chicago Manual of Style. My next job was as a project manager for a craft book publisher. I am neither a scientist nor a crafter, so one of my main strengths as a copyeditor is to edit complicated and often technical text without altering content or (sometimes) even understanding the content.

Freelance clients have included Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences; American Society of Civil Engineers; Harvard Education Publishing Group; and academic writers of dissertations, chapters, and articles on a wide range of topics.

But as a writer, I also know what it is like on the other side of the desk. I believe in preserving the writer’s voice and intentions and strengthening creative work through a collaborative editing process. I have proofread, copyedited, and helped develop memoirs, novels, essays, and poetry.
